Is FC25 worth it? A definitive review of the new EA Sports game
On September 27th FC25 was released for the general public, at least the standard version, because if you are a millionaire or you are YouTuber then you have been playing for a week thanks to the Ultimate version. Today I will do the definitive "analysis" of this videogame, mentioning the new game modes, the new integrations in the gameplay, how the game modes that we already know will be, in short, I will say if it is worth buying FC25 with this review since the previous one left a very high bar, or if those 70 dollars that the game costs can be invested in something better.
Before starting with all this I wanted to clarify that this analysis was updated on November 16th thanks to the fact that the game has changed quite a bit since the beginning, many people will consider buying it with the offers that there are, and I can't say on day 1 of the game if it is good or bad and that in 2 months it will be quite different, thanks to the 200 patches that have been released, the best thing is that the game has gotten worse.
Start interface
First, we have to talk about what we all see when we enter the game. That's right, I'm talking about the interface. I wanted to talk about this, but there aren't that many things to say. FC25 maintains the same interface as the previous installment. There are background cinematics, the game modes are the same with a new integration, nothing else to add, everything is clear here.
Ultimate Team
Regarding FC25 Ultimate Team, what can I say? It's not that there's any "evolution" from previous years, you know, because the only thing that's different is the evolutions, but not even that since FC25's evolutions are the same as last year, without further ado, they're going to break UT in the early stages with super broken cards, basically the same as every year, the game's community complains that they do everything wrong but they attribute it to this practice since they continue playing this game mode. They also added a new game mode which I'll talk about later, the bad thing is that the rewards are useless and it's not worth playing.
Pro Clubs
Pro Clubs is the best thing about this new installment of EA Sports FC, besides the new mode, this is not because they have made a big and significant change, not at all, in fact I would say that it takes a big downgrade with respect to last year in terms of gameplay thanks to the Gameplay, although there is a big but, which is the avatar editor, since now we can edit the faces in much more detail, it is incredible, since we have the possibility to recreate famous celebrities or tremendous aberrations with this new editing tool, so with this you can see your favorite television character playing false 9 against the cacharitas Football Club, without a doubt the best thing about the video game. We also have the option to play the traditional 11 vs 11 mode and the new game mode, just for these things I could say in this Review that FC25 is worth it, but there are some negative things besides the Ultimate Team.
Communication in pro clubs
I forgot to mention something about the pro clubs, it's that EA implemented something very similar to what a voice chat is, luckily or unfortunately we can communicate with our teammates, but we only have 4 options, so we get rid of toxicity, the bad thing is that the "Thank you!" can be used in so many negative ways that we're going to burn it. You don't know how much I appreciate this new integration in the game, a communication system was sorely needed.
Career mode in FC25
Even though many of us love the career mode, it's the same as last year, just with a few differences and additions. They completely changed the interface, they did the same with the entire game, it's not an interface that we've seen in previous installments, it's very confusing at the beginning because many different things appear on the screen, like news, training, in short, very good additions.
On the other hand, they also changed the tactics system to an even more confusing one, but the same thing I have said throughout the post, we will get used to it as time goes by, if I am not mistaken they changed the in-game practice system so you also have to learn that system.
New game mode: Rush
Well, what can you say about a game mode that is based on the Kings League? It is 5-a-side football with some pretty unusual rules, except that instead of people staring at the camera for hours, they are real players from football teams. Although, as I mentioned before, this game mode will also be available online in Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs, so start preparing players with 5 skills to be able to break it all in this new mode. For this reason, I would also say that FC25 is worth it in this Review, but there are still some VERY important points left.
Gameplay
To be clear and quick, it is a piece of garbage gameplay, more “realistic” in so many quotes, the controls seem to have delay and thanks to that it is impossible to do a dribble or any skill since the players seem like you have to move them with a crane, you can't do magic with the ball, but only because of the delay issue of the controls.
But the worst part is not the gameplay itself, as if you're a casual user, you won't care much. The worst thing they could have done is change the entire gameplay to please the UT users, so they can do their dribbles, but keeping the delay. Although this happens every year, EA implements more realistic gameplay, the community complains for days, and they end up changing it back to the same as always, but this time it's worse. Just for these reasons, I would say in this review that FC25 is not worth it, but there are still some points left.
Replays?
To ease a bit of the accumulated frustration, I had to mention that they changed the replay system. Now, you can watch the most important plays of the match from different angles. It's not a big deal and can be confusing when you try it for the first time, but once you get used to it, it's quite interesting. Obviously, this point is not to be taken too seriously, but I wanted to mention it.
Music
There are FIFAs with some really good songs, songs that stick in your mind with no chance of getting out. FIFA 21 and FIFA 22 are very memorable for this. Despite this game having more cons than pros, the music did not disappoint me at all. Obviously, not all the songs are good, but after losing 5-0 in FUT Champions, there are some that take away the anger and frustration. The music in this FC25 is very good—not the best in history, but certainly not trash.
Game State in November 2024
Now, the most important part of this update: if you want to buy the game in November, I don't recommend it at all, at least if it's for playing Ultimate Team. They haven't done anything right since the third week of the game. Qualifying for FUT Champions is impossible unless you dedicate a lot of time to the game. You have to play at least 12 matches in Rivals to get good rewards, and matchmaking is dead because no one plays. In short, they messed up badly with Ultimate Team this year.
Talking about the other modes, well, they're not bad but could be better. Next, let's go to the conclusion.
Conclusion of the FC25 Review
To wrap it up this review, is FC25 worth it? The short answer is no, and the long answer is also no. It's the same game every year as we all claim, but this year it feels worse because the gameplay is trash at the beginning of the game—basically what happens with each release. We'll never agree on whether we want realism or a player that looks like he has three rockets embedded in his rear. Going back to the initial question: yes, you can spend $70 for the same game as every year, but if you truly want to try new experiences with a triple-A game, since this one is priced like one, I'd really recommend you buy Black Myth Wukong. It's a totally new experience, out of the ordinary.
I have the idea that no one cares about the opinion of a stranger on the internet. Thanks to that, I won't give it a rating, but that's what the people no one knows on Metacritic are for—they provide an option and a rating.
